Reproducing a carpet from an existing document.

I was contacted by the curatorial staff of the North Carolina State Capitol; the existing carpet in both the House and Senate chambers was in tatters and a trip-hazard, and thus in desperate need of replacement. I flew down to Raleigh, inspected the carpets and measured the rooms. It’s a massive job, requiring 1,200 lineal yards of goods. I directed the persons charged with acquiring the carpet to an English mill that specializes in high-grade Axminster carpet, and they created artwork and samples for the committee in North Carolina. By purchasing directly through the suppliers and without a middleman, the state saved thousands of dollars. The goods are currently in the United States, and being cut and sewn in preparation for installation, which will be an incredibly intricate task that requires working around the many elevated platforms.
